Amazing Education Week
Extraordinary and Exciting Education Week TCI
We had a jam-packed week for Education Week TCI at the International School. The school was a hub of activity with many special visitors. As part of Education Week TCI, the school also participated in the Fortis TCI Science Fair and won!
The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports & Library Services invited the general public to celebrate this year’s Education Week March 1st -6th, under the theme “Unite for Quality Education: Better Education for a Better World”.
During the week of activities island-wide the general public were encouraged to join in unity with educators across the country in support of quality education for a better TCI.
What is Education Week TCI?
Education Week TCI was established more than 26 years ago to call attention to the importance of education and to showcase the talents of TCI teachers and students. This year’s theme aims to mobilize education partners around a shared vision of quality education, with a focus on:
• Quality Teachers: Teachers are the most important educational resource and a critical determinant of quality.
• Quality tools and resources: Modern curricula and inclusive teaching and learning materials and resources.
• Quality Environment: Supportive, safe, and secure teaching and learning environments enabling teachers to teach effectively.

Living History at the International School
The International School of the Turks and Caicos Islands created a ‘Living History’ workshop in order to educate and celebrate our islands as part of Education Week TCI.
The Hon. Akierra Missick, who is also Minister for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, visited the ‘Living History’ workshop and enthusiastically participated in the many educational activities. Cultural Minister David Bowen gave an enthralling presentation on the importance of the culture and heritage of the Turks and Caicos Islands, stories about language and introduced the types of musical instruments. Visit from BWIC students
Students from Grade 9 at BWIC came to entertain us with dramatic performances of scripts they had written themselves and also read stories to the younger children. These were of a very high standard and were very much enjoyed by our children. It was especially nice to see some of our past students among the group! We are delighted to strengthen the relationship between our two schools.
Teacher Appreciation Day
THANK YOU very much to the PTA for our wonderful lunch and especially Angel and Stacey for decorating the staff room so beautifully and Lisa and Anna for taking on playground duty, so we could all enjoy lunch together. See our Thank you to our teachers!
World Book Day
So much going on, firstly, it was DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) – The entire school, adults and children, dropped everything and read in a comfy spot for an hour. The younger children shared books or did book related activities. We then had opportunities for children to meet with real authors to learn about the process of writing a book – both fiction and non-fiction. Children worked on creating their own collaborative books – TCI ABCs!
We ended the day with a fabulous character parade – where there were children dressed up in all manner of wonderful costumes representing characters from Sleeping Beauty to Captain Underpants! View Full Blog
