Blog
These last few weeks have been very active for Grade 6!
From Yeast experiments to Punctuation and Persuasion, Harry Potter and Flashbacks in Literacy and more and more Maths - Grade 6 are being prepared in every way for their upcoming examinations.
Literacy Techniques
‘Flashbacks’ has involved looking at sections of different Harry Potter novels, watching clips and seeing how the ‘Pensieve’ is a clever tool used by JK Rowling. We have seen how she introduces the characters and their history/details via different flashbacks… a very interesting technique!
Turks and Caicos Islands
Our Turks and Caicos Islands topic is beyond fabulous – we are all learning things we didn’t know and using the amazing book written by Mrs. Danics and Mrs. Hinks! We are very l
ucky to have this at our fingertips!
In our topic work we have looked at the islands, populations, seen the differences between 2012 and 2014 and also learnt about different islands.
We are thinking about 'Beautiful by Nature' and this has been linked to our persuasive writing on the environment and recycling; all very interesting and up to date topics that need to be talked about.
Amazing Science!
Try some experiments to do at home. Read our Grade 6 science blog.
In Science we are studying Microbes and Evolution and linking it into Cells and Differentiated Cells; not easy topics. Grade 6 especially enjoyed studying the findings of Joseph Lister and Edward Jenner – both amazing scientists!
Grade 6 found out that sugar, yeast and warmth make foam! Our experiment did not turn out quite as predicted but nevertheless, we will analyse and evaluate!
