We have outstanding teachers who are high school and middle school trained and the building will be purpose built to facilitate the learning of our students and set up with the application of technology in mind.

While we will continue to use the British National Curriculum as a basis for study we will adapt it to our needs and we will incorporate elements from other educational systems to ensure that children are able to transition to the Grade 10 in the school system, in the country of their choice.

We are excited about what we can offer here: a truly international education for our students, which will set them up for the future which they are destined for.

Grade 7

What sets us apart?

Our children are the guardians of tomorrow’s world and as such, we have a duty to prepare them for that responsibility and to take their place on the global stage.

The Middle School curriculum focuses on the understanding that students in this age group are developing skills that will help them to succeed in the rest of their academic and social lives.

We are hugely passionate about our plans and believe that we have something unique and really quite special to offer students at this next stage in their education.

We are focused on four main areas:

  • 21st Century skills
  • Core Curriculum
  • Developing the whole individual
  • Extensive school facilities to achieve excellence in academics

21st Century Skills

ISTCI Middle School Skills Diagram

The International School has gone Google.

Many of our children are going to be in professions which do not yet exist. How do we prepare them for this?

They need a strong foundation in core curriculum subjects BUT they need something more. We need to ensure that creativity, logical thinking and problem solving are at the core of the programme which we plan for them.

At the forefront of education right now is the importance of Learning and Innovation Skills as well as Information, Media and technology skills – 21st Century Skills.

Our Middle School Teachers will all be trained as GOOGLE EDUCATORS.

We will use G-suite for Education which is designed specifically for productivity and collaboration and advanced technology integration skills. The tools encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, and let teachers work one-on-one or with the whole class.

Google Classroom was designed with teachers and students to connect the class easily, track their progress and achieve more together.

Google Classroom is mission-control for lessons. Teachers can create lessons, distribute assignments, send feedback and see everything in one place. Instant. Paperless. Easy. Work anywhere, anytime, and on any device with G Suite for Education.

Educators can provide instant feedback and track a student’s progress to improve performance. Classroom seamlessly integrates with other Google tools and helps educators refresh their curriculum with integrated education apps.  Most importantly, Google Classroom helps free up educator time so they can focus on what they do best: teaching.

All of our upper school students will be required to bring a lap-top to school, in order to develop those skills necessary to compete in the 21st century.  Each child will become familiar with and participate in a platform from GOOGLE EDUCATION, integrating technology into their individualized learning.

Core Curriculum Academics

We are committed to Academic Excellence.

We strive for each child to reach their full potential.

At our Middle School, we are committed to excellence in academics and ensuring that all children receive the individualised instruction to allow them to achieve their personal best.

We believe very strongly in the importance of strong foundation skills – English and Mathematics will continue to be taught daily. Pen on paper is still an art however and will be used daily.

As educators, we are constantly searching for new ways to help students make sense of the multitude of life’s experiences and the bits and pieces of knowledge they gain from a traditionally departmentalised curriculum. Students today continue to move from one discipline to the next forcing the information to be disconnected to any thing that resembles real life situations.

To lighten some of the fragmentation our youth experience, a more integrated curriculum is our goal.

When themes, subjects, or projects are combined, students begin to see meaningful connections between the subject matter. Material then serves as a vehicle for learning rather than simply pieces of information. In addition to this, repetition of material from one subject to the next is essentially eliminated.

Developing the Whole Student

Not all learning takes place in the classroom.

We will have extended days once a week where we will devise a program based around the core philosophies of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.  Children will become involved in activities which encourage them to become thoughtful global citizens and give back to their community and get out of the classroom and involved in outdoor and adventurous activities.

This might incorporate, community service projects, environmental activities, reef surveying, learning from experts, diving, kayaking etc.

We also have a strong belief in the importance of showing the children their place in the wider world.  Thus, International Field Trips will be planned to enhance the curriculum, allowing students to observe what they are studying as a reality.

Key Focus:

  • Developing our youth into citizens of the world
  • Participating in environmentally charged activities
  • Local community awareness
  • Working at making wise choices as a part of the whole
  • Developing Pre – The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme Skills
  • Integrated field trips to help make learning fun and meaningful
  • International field trips

Students grow personally, socially, and academically when taken out of their comfort zone and exposed to new and exciting experiences.  Wherever the group chooses to explore, the week long integrated experience will be a culmination of group fundraising and planning, as well as individual research and commitment.

We will use the ethos of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme to provide our children with weekly enrichment activities based around the main pillars of the scheme:

The Grade 7 at the International School provides an alternative option for children reaching the end of their primary school years.  This is a much needed alternative option, to serve our children and our community.

Grade 8

International School TCI Middle School

The Grade 8 curriculum is designed to help the students know the modern world: from history to science to literature; the aim is to help the  students feel at home in the present world, with their own emerging individualities.

Grade 9

International School TCI Middle School

The curriculum ensures that each subject builds on prior understandings and skills. As life is a complex myriad of relationships and connections, students engage with these understandings and skills through units that allow students to grapple with complex ideas and look at a variety of perspectives.
